Is Your New Year's Resolution to Eat Healthier? Let the Second Graders Help!!

The 2nd graders are learning about persuasive writing.  What better way to learn what that means then by writing their own persuasive commercials!!

Students named their cereal and designed their cereal boxes on the computers, then with their partner they wrote their scripts, practiced and performed their commercials for you!  They are so impressive and they did it all themselves!  Wow!!

I guarantee you will be persuaded!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We send you out on Thanksgiving break with this CSS episode on the Second Grade Thanksgiving Museum!  The second graders worked hard to learn about and create artifacts to teach the museum visitors about the voyage of the Mayflower, the pilgrims' daily life, the clothing worn by the Wampanoags and pilgrims and what the first feast looked like.  It was fantastic!!

Thank you to CSS staff Colin, Zack and Sydney for catching the essence of the museum - a truly wonderful job by the second graders!!

Double Dose of the PeaceBuilders Program!

We have begun the PeaceBuilders program this year!   Find out what it's all about!!

From the PeaceBuilder's website: "its essence is a common language - six principles, taught, modeled and practiced.  These same principles set behavioral expectations, reduce aggression, and transform the climate and culture of the environment to one which is cooperative, supportive, productive and academically successful."  http://www.peacebuilders.com

Part One:  Learn all about this program from all of our students at Center!

Part Two:  Grammy Award Nominated Singer/Songwriter and Children's Author of The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade, Justin Roberts, was brought to Center for an all day presentation/workshop through a LEEF Grant funded to our media specialist, Lynne Elfeky.  It was an amazing presentation and fit into our PeaceBuilders program perfectly.

First Grade Writers Make Sense!

As part of the first grade
unit on fall, the first graders were asked to describe the fall season using their five senses.  As a class, we brainstormed and made lists.  Then each student completed a fall poem using words from our lists.  They learned how to download and type a document, as well as change the background color. They did an excellent job with this writing project.    Congratulations first grade poets!

Second Grade White House Correspondents!

These second graders are amazing!  First, they took a field trip to Washington D.C. (virtually of course!) and viewed all of the rooms in the White House.  In preparation for this project, the students reviewed how to project their voices, speak slowly and clearly plus add enthusiasm (pizzazz!).  They practiced their lines over and over at home and in their classrooms (thank you parents and teachers!).  They did a truly sensational job delivering their lines - an exemplar for all!

What a great social studies, reading and public speaking project to coordinate with what they are learning in class. So much to learn from these smart second graders!

Enjoy!!  Click here to go on your own virtual tour: Center goes to the White House

Fourth Grade Creates Name That State Gameshow!

The fourth graders are studying the New England states in social studies class and created this awesome game from start to finish:  researched the states, wrote their scripts,  rehearsed and performed.  It also gave them practice projecting their voices, talking slowly, enunciating and adding expression - great public speaking practice!  Enjoy the beautiful scenery from our area!

First Grade Authors - Beautiful Butterfly Books!

As the first graders studied butterflies, they used the iPad app, Butterfly HD, to read about the stages of a butterfly's life cycle, view pictures, learn fun facts and even take "pop quizzes."
Next, we discusses what the students had learned in their classrooms and through the iPad app in technology.  We recorded our facts in the iPad app, Book Creator.
Finally, using the Flipsnack website, we posted them here as books for you to flip through.  Amazing job first graders!

~ Click to read - it goes full screen!  Be sure to turn on volume at the top for "flip" sounds! ~
