Holiday Traditions!!

Celebrate the holidays with Center School Sightings!  Samantha, CSS videographer, captured the students in kindergarten through fifth grades as they put on a holiday assembly filled with song and cheer.  Enjoy!

Another wonderful tradition takes place with Mrs. Quinn's fifth graders and their special guests.  In memory of her grandmother, Mrs. Quinn teaches her students how to write a memoir about a special person.  You'll laugh and you'll cry watching the students share their stories with their guests of honor.  Please contact Mrs. Quinn for video of the event in its entirety.  Excellent job fifth grade!

Our Guest Speaker, Mrs. Bone, with an Important Message

Mrs. Bone came into the fifth grade technology integration class to share her knowledge and passion for recycling.  The students were really into it and asked great questions as well as shared what surprised them most.

A special thank you to Kayley, who came up with the whole idea, and to her Mom for the time, terrific slideshow and wonderful presentation.  We all learned a great deal about recycling!  The students will use what they learned in creating projects to teach others about recycling.

Of course, CSS was there to capture the action!  All CSS episodes can be found on our website. Center School Sightings

Not Blogs, GLOGS!

The fourth grade teachers created a science integrated technology unit for teaching the types of rocks to their students.  The students used Glogster to demonstrate their knowledge.  Glogster is an interactive tool that allows users to create virtual posters combining text, audio, video, images, and hyperlinks.
Take a scroll through these Glogs - amazing work by the entire fourth grade!

USA Collages by the Second Grade

The second graders are studying landmarks and symbols of our country in their classrooms for Social Studies.  Using the app, Pic Collage, they made these amazing posters of sixteen pictures representing the USA to reinforce what their teachers were teaching.  Interesting note - we started this project before the Thanksgiving holidays and afterward, they could identify each and every picture!  Impressive learning and creating!!  We may have some future graphic designers among the second grade.

CSS Special Report - Mystery Reader Comes to Kindergarten!

Kira's Dad, Nolan Pratt, a two time Stanley Cup winning hockey player, comes to Mrs.  Palazzi's class with Screech, the Springfield Falcons Mascot.  What an exciting day for the kindergarteners!  Mr. Pratt, who now coaches with the Falcons, read the book, The Magic Hockey Stick by Peter Maloney and Felicia Zekauskas.  Then Screech passed out goodies to the children and led a chant for his team!
Our own CSS videographer, Daly, was live on the scene to catch all of the action!  She produced the entire segment herself.  Way to go Daly and thank you Mrs. Palazzi, Mr. Pratt, and all of the kindergarteners for inviting us!

Travel to the White House with the Second Grade!

These second graders are amazing!  First, they took a field trip to Washington D.C. (virtually of course!) and viewed all of the rooms in the White House.  Then they chose rooms they wanted to tell us about on the tour and practiced their lines over and over.  What a great social studies project to coordinate with what they are learning in class.   Finally, the performance day arrived!  So much to learn from these students!  Enjoy!!

First Graders Make Sense!

As part of the first grade unit on fall, the first graders were asked to describe the fall season using their five senses.  As a class, we brainstormed and made lists.  Then each student completed a fall poem using words from our lists.  They did an excellent job with this writing project.    Congratulations first graders on a job well done!
