Under Ms. Vigna's direction, a group of third graders performed the readers theatre play, "Mr. Twit's Revenge" based on the novel by Roald Dahl. Students practiced extensively on fluency and expression, inferring word meanings, and discussing characters' feelings and motivations to better understand the story. Enjoy!

Center School Sightings, our school newscast, started in 2012. The fifth graders, former and current, have produced episodes going back for five and a half years. They have filmed, reported and edited episodes about educational happenings and exciting events each year at Center School.
To celebrate, Mrs. Hutton came up with the idea to ask students about their favorite episode. They had such a great time going "back in time" to see themselves, their friends, their siblings, and all of the events that have happened over the past five years. Students in grades 2-5 were given the opportunity to be interviewed about their favorite CSS and over 90 accepted. There's been a lot of excitement around this milestone!
Mrs. Cummings, a long time fan of the show, summarized it perfectly when she said, "CSS captures in the moment what's happening at Center, but it's also a wonderful keepsake of a lot of special memories."
Enjoy!

International Hour of Code was celebrated at Center through the creator's Code.org. Students also participated in Osmo coding, robotics, and programming challenges. The problem solving skills, collaboration and determination the students showed was most impressive!
First graders have been working on the game Numbers using the Osmo System. Thanks to the Longmeadow Educational Excellence Foundation and Chelsea Berry, these systems can be found in every grade level for children to practice not only math, but a variety of skills. The focus, teamwork, excitement and learning is palpable! First graders are definitely ready to use Osmo in their classrooms!
The fifth grade book swap is the topic for this latest CSS! Enjoy! To see all of our newscasts as the year continues or to look back over the last five years, please check out our website: Center School Sightings
The second grade Thanksgiving Feast was an amazing event! The students work very hard making all of the decorations, learning along the way, and they recorded a performance of the first Thanksgiving. Friends and family enjoyed the event, and CSS was there to take in the action! Special thanks to our reporter, Emma and our videographer, Patrick! Way to go! Happy Thanksgiving everyone from your friends at Center School! Fourth graders in action starting our robotics/engineering unit. A SPECIAL thank you to LEEF for the new room set up so children can explore and for the robotics equipment. As you can see, the children are learning by leaps and bounds!
Second grade has been busy in traveling the country virtually to learn about our US landmarks. Today they take YOU with them on a tour of each one. They worked hard on speaking clearly and using expression. They did such a great job, you may see them on the next travel show!
Our phenomenal first graders spent several weeks learning about each season through interactive technology sites, each others' experiences and our friend, BrainPop Jr.! In our culminating science project, students thought about all they had learned and are now sharing it with you! Very impressive first graders!!
Our fifth graders used their skills of script writing, creativity, acting, conducting an interview and film production to independently create these amazing interviews with explorers of the new world. It was just so cool to watch them in action! Students worked collaboratively to write scripts, choose backgrounds for their film, and film each other on the green screen. Get ready to meet the explorers!
The "Year of the Reader" is being celebrated in style in the third grade! Welcome to their Fun-Filled Fall Foliage and Flannels Outdoor Reading Celebration! Enjoy!

The fourth graders produced their own movies to see how well YOU know your New England states! First, they collaboratively researched their states. Secondly, each group of students wrote their scripts together. Thirdly, they decided on a green screen background, and lastly, they used the DoInk app to film one another, encouraging expression in their voices. From beginning to end, so proud of their efforts! Fourth graders can do it all!! Now let's see how YOU do in their gameshow!
Second graders are studying some of the US Landmarks! We took a virtual field trip on Google Earth, made these collages and are studying the landmarks in detail to prepare for a green screen performance. Have a question about a landmark? Ask a second grader!
Please be sure to bookmark our new website, Center Stage! It's a curriculum corner to help YOU understand your child's educational experiences at Center. Math fluency expectations? "Welcome to Center" is the theme of our next episode. Fifth graders interviewed our five new teachers this year. Enjoy getting to know them! To see all of our newscasts as the year continues or to look back over the last five years, please check out our website: Center School Sightings
First graders begin studying the seasons as part of their Foss science Air and Weather unit! As a culminating project, students created fall collages using the PicCollage kids app on the iPads.
Even though it doesn't feel like fall right now, it's coming our way!
