CSCN Sports Broadcast by 4th Graders!

Wow! What an impressive group of children!   With the Super Bowl coming up and the Olympics under way, as well as all of the interests they shared in their All about Me projects, these fourth graders selected the one topic they were most excited about to create a broadcast segment.

They all worked collaboratively to write scripts, bounce ideas off one  another, and brainstorm how to make their topic appeal to an audience.

From there, they chose or created a green screen background for their broadcast, practiced their lines, and filmed each other, giving suggestions along the way.

What did they learn? They learned to take ownership, be independent, yet collaborative; how journalists write as well as honing their craft on informational and persuasive pieces; how videography and green screen technology work; last, but not least, they learned how to help and encourage each other through the ups and downs.

This work is ALL theirs, and I couldn't be prouder.

Special thank you to Henry, whose script included animation.
We all learned something new! " )

Second Graders: Inventors, Script Writers, Persuasive Sales People!

Mrs. Serafino, Mrs. Gildersleeve, Mrs. Whitman, and Mrs. Silva are rock star educators!  Not only did they create a makerspace for their second graders, they let innovation and creativity rule as students designed their own inventions!! And if that wasn't enough, they helped their second graders write and produce commercials selling the products the students invented.  We are SO fortunate to have these amazing teachers at Center!  Wait until you see these inventions - WOW!

Osmo Time in Second Grade!

Students discovered the world of Osmo to practice addition and subtraction.  Osmo allows students to use hands-on tiles to interact with the digital world on their iPads.  Every single student was engaged for 40 minutes and not wanting to stop at the end of class.  That's math success!

Second Grade Landmark Movies!

Second grade has been busy traveling the country through our LEEF Virtual Reality goggles to learn about the U.S. landmarks!  Then they researched each landmark, made creative and clever Google slideshows (see next post) and from that created a script!
Today they take YOU with them on a tour of each one.  They worked hard on speaking clearly and using expression.  The second graders did such a great job, you just may see them on the next travel show!  Enjoy!

Second Graders and Google Slideshows- Prepare to be Amazed!

Second graders created the most phenomenal Google slideshows in their study of United States Landmarks.  After learning about each landmark, they chose a fact to share and an image, then really made their slides snazzy!  Here are a few examples, enjoy! Some students were so excited, they created their own slideshows on a topic of their choice!
