Augmented Reality in Kindergarten!

Researchers and engineers are pulling graphics out of television screens or computer displays and integrating them into real-world environments.  This new technology, called augmented reality, enhances what we see, hear, feel and smell.

The kindergarteners have begun using this exciting technology to practice their lively letters.  When they focus the iPad on a card, a three dimensional, animated character appears, which they can touch and hear the letter name and sound.  The students had the idea to take pictures of the characters too!

A pretty cool way to remember their sounds!!

Lifecycle of an Apple Tree by Third Grade

The third graders used the new green screen studio to teach us what they know about the apple tree lifecycle. They incorporated presentation skills: reading from a teleprompter, projecting their voices and even gave it a go with pointing to items that would appear later in place of the green screen. Fantastic third graders!

Flip through the Books Written and Illustrated by Our First Graders!

As the first graders studied butterflies, they used the iPad app, Butterfly HD, to read about the stages of a butterfly's life cycle, view pictures, watch videos, learn fun facts and even take "pop quizzes."
Next, we met in small groups to discuss what the students had learned in class and through the iPad.  We recorded our facts in the iPad app, Book Creator.  We selected pictures that illustrated our facts.
Finally, using the flipsnack website, we posted them here as books for you to flip through.  Amazing job first graders!

Open House - Green Screen Style!

Thank you to all who came to check out the new tech integration room, featuring our green screen studio!  Students and families "got their groove on" to break in our new studio.  Students wondered what would happen if they had a shade of green or blue on...view the video to see!

Check back on this blog often to see technology projects and student created green screen projects that showcase the many amazing things your children are learning from the Center School teachers this year!

PS- This video is unlisted on YouTube - so no one else is going to see it!  " )

Second Grade Authors

The second graders are working on a digital story about the butterfly lifecycle.  Our first step is the research.  Learning tips to researching a topic, they enjoyed the new technology studio and accomplished the background they need to begin writing their book next week!

Kindergarteners Share!

After reading a digital story of The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, the kindergarteners learned the importance of sharing from the main character.  Then using the Doodle Buddy app on the iPad, they drew the Rainbow Fish while we discussed ways that we can share with each other.  Enjoy their interpretations of the Rainbow Fish!
